CATEGORY H FILMS

Category H films is a horror club specializing in late night double bills at the Rio Cinema in Dalston. I co-program Category H with Claire Harrison aka Scary Claire, and we look towards unusual pairings of films best suited to the late night shadows. In the spirit of William Castle, we theme our events making each Category H a unique experience. We have collaborated with Lammiland, Cinema Mentire, Token Homo and BFI Flipside on various screenings. Our club has been featured in an article in The Guardian online, and we screen on a roughly monthly basis.

Established in 2024, we began Category H as a way to share our passion for horror films with an audience and open up late night spaces to everyone. The Rio Cinema has a long history of late night double bills, and we wanted to program in a way that reflected this tradition. Our work has included going into the Rio’s archive, such as for our Goth Films Or Films Of Interest To Goths summer season 2025, in order to thoroughly delve into and celebrate the cinemas legacy.
